Though there is only one clinical trial researching the effectiveness of CBD with those affected by the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), anecdotal evidence has taken the world by storm. For those who are familiar with CBD and who have been affected by ASD in some way, CBD and Autism just makes sense and there’s science to back it up.
Josh Kaplan, Ph.D., has been researching medicinal cannabis at the University of Washington for some time. In one of his studies, he gives CBD to mice affected by Autism and notices a clear change in their social behaviors. Before the CBD, the ASD mice would prefer interacting with an inanimate object over their peers. After administering the CBD, the ASD mice would engage with the other mice and prefer to do so over playing with the same inanimate object. An interesting finding, to say the least, especially considering Autism is often considered a social disorder.
Kaplan is proving in his research that “[t]hese improvements in social behaviors were associated with CBD’s ability to enhance inhibitory brain function by increasing the activity of the neurons that regulate the level of inhibition in the brain.”*
In our experience, CBD tends to find what’s missing or what isn’t functioning correctly in the body, targets it and helps ease the ailment. Many people take CBD as a way to improve performance when exercising while others take it to cure their insomnia. Many use CBD as a mood booster and feel more energetic when they take it while others use it to relax, to calm their nerves and reduce anxiety.
