Is Raw CBD better than Activated CBD? I’ve been asked this question too many times to count. There are important differences between the Raw and Activated/Decarboxylated cannabinoids that will affect the effect it has on your body.
For starters, Raw cannabinoids (CBD) are known as CBDA. When CBDA has been activated or decarboxylated it means that it has been heated up slowly over time and therefore the A (Acid) burns off, leaving you with CBD only. The plant material and vitamins also burn off in this process similar to what happens when you cook vegetables.
CBD and CBDA are similar in one regard in that they both work through the 5HT-1A receptors but CBDA appears to be a much stronger cannabinoid than CBD alone.
Raw cannabinoids also block COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes that control inflammation and the pain that comes from inflammation. This is promising because inflammation is the underlying cause of a lot of illnesses.
Recent research from Dr. Raphael Mechoulam — the Israeli cannabis researcher who was credited for discovering tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and the Endocannabinoid System – reveals many new benefits of CBDA. For one, CBDA is 1000 times more potent than CBD. He refers to CBDA as an unstable molecule due to the fact that when exposed to heat, it will convert to CBD, but the benefits to the body far surpass those of CBD alone.
Many people believe CBD needs to be activated/heated/decarboxylated to work but this is simply not so. THC, on the other hand, must be heated up in order to produce the intoxicating effects of the molecule.
All 101 CBD products contain over 77% CBDA. We do not offer CBD isolate, which we believe has very limited health benefits.
Ok, i get conflicting information out there: first that is most prevalent is that you need to decarboxylate cbda and thca to have maximum effect. now you are telling me that raw or cbda works better than cbd! could give a rats butt on thca but same question?
friend just told me that you get better affect of cbd with some thc in there. is this true.
finally, do you have publicatioins that support your statement about raw or carboxylated cbd being as good as cbd?
thanks
Hi Donald, Thanks for your comment! Yes, there is a lot of conflicting information out there. For THC, it is necessary to heat up/decarboxylate the THC to activate it. For CBD, that is not the case. Decarboxylating CBD will isolate the CBD, burning off the valuable CBDa that adds so much healing power to our full-spectrum CBD products. Check out this article for more information – https://101cbd.org/2017/12/19/raw-cbd-vs-activated-cbd-which-is-best-for-you/
As our CBD products are CO2 extracted, there is a trace amount of THC present (under the required .03%). It must be present in order for it to be a true “full- spectrum” product. If you see “THC Free” then you’re looking at an isolate product (which we don’t carry). We believe in full-spectrum because of the “entourage effect” of maintaining multiple cannabis compounds and allowing them to work together to help heal. You can find more information here regarding this here – https://101cbd.org/2018/08/22/the-difference-between-full-spectrum-cbd-and-cbd-isolate/
When you think about raw CBD you can compare it to veggies – when you cook broccoli, for instance, you will cook off some of the vital nutrients in the process. A raw piece of broccoli has much more vitamins and nutrients than a cooked one. It’s the same with CBD. Please see our Cannabinoid Profile to see the ailments that CBDa treats here – https://101cbd.org/2018/03/13/101-cbd-cannabinoid-profile/.
